Henry Irwin, a British architect, designed the structure constructed in the Jacobean style during the reign of Lord Dufferin, beginning in 1880 and ending in 1888. Lord Dufferin wanted a beautiful building built on the foothills of the Himalayas to impress state guests at banquets.
