At an elevation of 2730 mtrs The loveliness of Prashar lies in its landscape with the lake, meadows on slope down to dense forests and wide snow-covered Dhauladhar range. Prashar Lake is about 300 mtr around with a floating island in it. The clear water of this place adds to the beauty.

The popular belief is that the lake was created by Rishi (Saint) Prashar’s mighty blow of rod and water came out and took the shape of a lake. Completed with Pagoda Style, an ancient temple dedicated to the Rishi Prashar who is considered a Patron God of Mandi region stands by this lake. Built by the King Ban Sen in the 13-14th century this temple,in which Rishi stays as a pindi. Constructed from a single deodar tree and believed that it took 12 years to build the entire temple. One walk around the lake provides a magical tranquility of views.

Prashar Lake Trek

Prashar Lake Trek – 8957 feet above sea level, Kullu Valley. It is 16 kilometers trekking which falls under an easy category. The Prashar Lake Trek is enclosed by the Kinnaur, Dhauladhar and Pir Panjal Mountain ranges. The path goes through magical woods and snow-covered summits. Along the way, you can see oak, pine and rhododendrons on either side with some groves of apple orchids. Day 1: Kantlu to Prashar Lake

Elevation: 6,050 feet (1,844 m) to 8,900 feet (2,713 m

Duration: 1 hour drive + 5 hours trek, Distance:7.05 km

Trek gradient:  Moderate. From here, the climb is steep but it only lasts for 500 meter.

Water Sources: Carry at least 2 liters of water because there is only one water resource till around 2.6 km into the trek.

Day 2: Prashar Lake to Kantlu

Altitude: 8,900-6,050 ft

Duration: 3.5 hours Length: 7.7 km

Trek gradient: Easy.  Mostly downhill, a little uphill.

Continue along this path to Kantlu, which is 2 km from Halgarh.

Stop your vehicle at Kantlu, have lunch and leave for Mandi.

Things to Carry during Prashar Lake Trek

  1. Trekking Shoes: Get good grip trekking shoes with ankle support. Do not carry sports shoes.
  2. Clothing: Three layer jacket for warm, fleece or down featherly jacket. Take 1 or 2 full sleeve t-shirts. For lowers wear thick cotton trousers on a trek. Jeans or shorts should not be taken along during trekking.
